Tutors with 2–5 years of teaching experience, often with formal language teaching credentials. The sweet spot for most serious learners.

Professional tutors

Highly experienced tutors, IELTS/JLPT exam specialists, tutors with advanced academic credentials, or native speakers with professional backgrounds.

Refund policy

Trial lesson guarantee. If you are unsatisfied with your first lesson with a new tutor, contact us within 24 hours and we will issue a full refund. No questions asked. This applies once per tutor.

Cancellation before 24 hours. Cancel or reschedule a lesson more than 24 hours before it starts and receive a full refund to your original payment method.

Cancellation within 24 hours. Late cancellations may be subject to a 50% cancellation fee, depending on the tutor's stated policy. The tutor's policy is visible on their profile before booking.

Tutor no-shows. If a tutor fails to appear for a confirmed lesson without notice, you receive a full refund automatically.

Is there a platform subscription fee?

No. Headstart charges no monthly fee, no subscription, and no sign-up cost. You pay only for lessons you book.

How do tutors set their rates?

Tutors set their own hourly rates independently. Rates reflect teaching experience, language difficulty, and credentials. You can see a tutor's rate before booking.

Does Headstart take a commission?

Headstart charges a platform fee on each transaction to cover payment processing, platform maintenance, and tutor verification. This is deducted from the tutor's payment — students pay the listed rate only.

What is the trial lesson refund policy?

If you're unsatisfied with your first lesson with a tutor, contact support within 24 hours and we'll issue a full refund. This applies to one trial per tutor. We want you to find the right fit.

Can I negotiate a rate with a tutor?

You can message a tutor before booking to discuss your needs. Some tutors offer discounted rates for longer sessions (90 or 120 minutes) or for students who book a block of lessons in advance. This is entirely at the tutor's discretion.

What payment methods are accepted?

Headstart accepts major credit and debit cards, GCash, PayMaya, and other popular Philippine payment methods via PayMongo. International cards are accepted via Stripe.

Are there discounts for booking multiple lessons?

Some tutors offer package deals for blocks of 5 or 10 lessons. These are set individually by tutors and will be visible on their profile or available via direct message.

What happens if a tutor cancels?

If a tutor cancels a confirmed lesson, you receive a full refund automatically. Repeated cancellations by a tutor may result in suspension from the platform.
