Commission Agreement

Last updated: 3 May 2026

1. Platform Commission Rate

Headstart charges a 20% platform commission on each completed lesson. This commission covers platform infrastructure, payment processing, customer support, fraud prevention, and ongoing product development.

The applicable commission rate is the rate in effect at the time of lesson completion.

2. Trial Lesson Commission Waiver

For the first trial lesson between a tutor and a new student, Headstart waives its 20% commission entirely. The tutor receives 100% of the trial lesson fee.

Trial lessons are defined as: the first lesson between a given tutor-student pair, priced at up to 50% of the tutor's regular hourly rate, and no longer than 30 minutes.

This waiver applies once per unique tutor-student pairing and may be revised with 30 days' notice.

3. Commission Calculation

Commission is calculated on the gross lesson fee paid by the student, before any platform discounts or promotional credits.

Example: Student pays ₱500 for a 60-minute lesson. Platform commission (20%): ₱100 Tutor earnings (80%): ₱400

If a student used a promotional credit to partially fund the lesson, commission is still calculated on the full lesson price, not the net cash paid.

4. Refunds and Commission Reversal

If a lesson is refunded (full or partial) due to tutor cancellation, student dispute, or platform error, the commission is reversed proportionally.

Full refund → full commission reversal. 50% refund → 50% commission reversal. No refund → no reversal.

Reversed commissions are deducted from the tutor's pending or available balance.

5. Payout Currency

Tutors select their preferred payout currency during onboarding. Supported currencies include PHP, USD, EUR, GBP, SGD, CNY (via Wise), and others subject to availability.

Currency conversion for payouts is performed at the Wise mid-market exchange rate at the time of payout processing. Headstart does not charge an additional foreign exchange markup.

6. Payout Methods

Payouts are processed via:

Philippines: GCash, Maya, local bank transfer. International: Wise international bank transfer (IBAN / SWIFT). Batch CSV: available for tutors with volume earnings who prefer reconciliation via CSV.

Minimum payout threshold: ₱500 (or equivalent). Amounts below the threshold are carried over to the next payout cycle.

7. Dispute Resolution

Commission disputes (e.g., incorrect calculation, missing payout) must be submitted via the /admin/disputes workflow or by emailing tutors@headstart.asia within 60 days of the lesson.

Headstart will review disputes within 10 business days and issue corrections where applicable.

8. Rate Changes

Headstart may revise the platform commission rate with at least 30 days' written notice via email and in-app notification. Lessons booked before the effective date of a rate change will be processed at the rate in effect at the time of booking.
