Why learn Hindi?
Hindi is the most widely spoken language in India and is understood by over 600 million people on the subcontinent. India is the world's most populous country and fifth-largest economy, with one of the fastest-growing technology, startup, and manufacturing sectors in the world.
For professionals working with Indian clients, partners, or teams, even basic Hindi proficiency signals a level of cultural respect and engagement that is deeply appreciated. Many Indian professionals default to English in multinational settings but genuinely warm to counterparts who make the effort to speak some Hindi.
Hindi is written in the Devanagari script, which is phonetically consistent — each character represents a single sound, making reading relatively straightforward to learn. The grammar borrows from Sanskrit but is more regular, and the vocabulary has absorbed Persian, Arabic, and English words through centuries of cultural exchange.
Bollywood cinema and Indian popular music reach a global audience of hundreds of millions. Understanding Hindi opens up one of the world's most prolific entertainment industries, with a film output that rivals Hollywood in sheer volume.

How long does it take to learn Hindi?
The FSI classifies Hindi as Category III — approximately 1,100 hours for professional proficiency. However, the Devanagari script is learnable in a few weeks, and basic conversational Hindi is accessible within 6–9 months.
Is Hindi similar to Urdu?
Spoken Hindi and Urdu are largely mutually intelligible, sharing a common colloquial base. They differ mainly in script (Devanagari vs. Nastaliq) and formal vocabulary — Hindi draws more from Sanskrit, Urdu from Persian and Arabic.
Is Devanagari hard to learn?
Devanagari has about 47 primary characters but is entirely phonetic — each character corresponds to one sound. Most students can read and write basic Devanagari within 3–4 weeks of regular practice.
